The amount is trivial to me, and I'd be more than happy to cover it, but the
issue of where we are, and our image, is an important one. It might be very
cool if we could give the list a minduploading.org domain (i. e. use
murg@m..., for nontechies) and forward from there; I doubt we can
change the reply-to address at egroups (though I could, of course, be less lazy
and CHECK on it, which I probably won't do). I'm less sure of other
mailing-list sites. Could we do it with source-forge? Anyway, if we did that,
we could move the list to a better free public server for now, and eventually
transfer it to a permanent, free private host such as the one I intend to run,
in order to avoid any possibility of ads and such. That way we could keep one
standard address through any future moves, and the full address would be more
relevant. Occasional crossposting to usenet could be done in order to
disseminate the list name and thus increase awareness of our existence.

Hadn't even read this before replying, but my above statements also apply here.
Actually, subscriptions could be migrated (hopefully automatically) and
removed from egroups while maintaining the egroups list and forwarding all
posts to it. This would have the advantage of maintaining the list on public
servers and keeping the name out there, for newcomers to stumble across; plus,
it could be done so that spammers who find the (public server) list address are
easier to keep out. The question remains concerning whether egroups is the
best company with which to associate MURG (I think it's currently odious but
not actually more harmful than helpful), but the idea works for other public
list servers as well.
