But the hassle of getting in all the small bills (heck, for time being
I'm out of the U.S.) would be certainly more than offset by the list
admin manually transferring the subscriber list to, say, sourceforge,
and disbanding the egroups list. Also, for $50/year I should be able
to get full control of a majordomo list on a Linux box somewhere,
without having to worry what the slimy egroups marketing weasels might
be coming up next (believe me, this is just the beginning).

Moreover, we have to use sourceforge (or a competing service) anyway,
if we ever want to collaborate in earnest. Also sourceforge as list
base radiates more 31337 attitude than the usual egroups L4M3rZ.

Many reasons, all of them good. Oh, and it's possible to download the
egroups archives with a python script. We don't have to lose our
history when moving.

It's Joe's list, so it's his call. I can filter stupid ads with a mail
filter easily enough, though I didn't bother with dejanews usenet
mailing list gateways (these prepend the ads) -- I just unsubbed.
