(Durham NH 03824 USA) has an opening for a recent Ph.D. to work on
polymerization kinetics for structured polymers in dispersed phase media.
The work will be part of a research program in emulsion polymers newly funded
by
a consortium of industrial companies.
The successful candidate will work with the PRG director - Dr Donald C.
Sundberg,
a research scientist - Dr Yvon G. Durant, a graduate student and
one or more undergraduate students as a team to advance the fundamental
understanding of particle morphology control in synthetic latices.
The position is available as early as March 1, 1996 has the following
requirements;
- Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering,
or polymer science engineering.
- Experience in free radical polymerization kinetics.
- Demonstrated ability to develop quantitative models,
to write computer programs to solve model equations, and to devise,
conduct and analyse experimental investigation.
In addition, it would be desirable for candidates to have a solid grounding in
polymer physical chemistry (thermodynamics, physical properties, etc) and
advanced mathematics (differential calculus, numerical analysis, matrix
calculus)
and to have some experience in emulsion polymerization.
The position carries a competitive salary with fringe benefits
(health unsurance, etc.) and is available for a period of up to 2.5 years.
As part of the responsabilities of this position it is expected that the
person develops continuous and positive interactions with the industrial
consortium representatives, writes scientific papers, and assists in research
proposal preparation.
